Khasm Labs:
Enhancing Disaster Response Communications
In July 2024, Khasm Labs secured first place in the National Security Innovation Network (NSIN) Catastrophic Communications Challenge. Our innovative solution, the Khasm Tactical Edge Network (KTEN), demonstrated exceptional capabilities in providing reliable communications during natural disasters and degraded environments.
Challenges
Inconsistent, unreliable connectivity across a large, dynamic site.
The need for real-time data transfer to monitor and optimize operations.
Support for new technologies, including IoT devices and connected equipment.
Solutions
The Khasm Tactical Edge Network (KTEN) is a secure, standalone 5G network with edge computing capabilities, designed to operate independently using satellite backhaul services. KTEN ensures that, even in the most challenging environments, emergency response teams remain connected to critical applications and to each other.
Results
Award-Winning Recognition
KTEN earned the $30,000 first prize in the NSIN Catastrophic Communications Challenge, highlighting its effectiveness and innovation.
Enhanced Disaster Response
Provided a reliable communication network for domestic operations (DOMOPS) crews during natural disasters, significantly improving coordination and response times.
Scalable Deployment
Demonstrated the ability to deploy quickly in various disaster scenarios, offering a versatile solution for emergency communications.
Key Benefits Delivered
Reliable Connectivity
Ensured continuous communication
in environments where traditional networks are unavailable or compromised
Operational Efficiency
Enhanced the effectiveness
of emergency response teams through seamless access to critical applications
Innovative Technology
Showcased the potential of standalone 5G networks in disaster response, setting a new
standard for emergency communications
